Dave and I went to the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge on the evening of July 8, 2009. I brought my good video camera to see if there was anything worth filming. We saw several things, but this great blue heron catching his evening fish meal was by far the best!I love how he dances to the music after he’s caught the fish. Let me know what you think.

Dave and I volunteered to stamp hands at the circus today and were able to see the show. The performers were very friendly and the acts were good. The lion was a bit stubborn, but the children in the audience were still impressed. My favorite was probably the girl clown (Kelly?) and her antics.
People often forget how much work goes into events like this, so I would like to say a warm thank you to the Zimmerman Chamber and especially Deb Kazle for putting this event together for us.

We attended our first neighborhood block party yesterday. We met many new friends and had a great time. I wish our children were home and able to go–they would have loved it!
Knowing the people in the neighborhood is an important part of emergency preparedness. National Night Out Against Crime is coming up soon, a perfect opportunity to get to know your neighbors!

I haven’t had my hair cut for almost a year and after I saw some of the photos Dave took of me, I decided it was probably about time to go under the scissors. I had my choice of local salons, and I decided to go to Fantastic Sams.
I went at their afternoon busy time so I had to wait about 30 minutes, but I sat in the waiting area so I could people watch. The store is well-taken care of and there were certainly a lot of customers in the chairs and waiting their turns. The stylists were all very friendly and chatting with the people in their chairs. Several children received haircuts and all of them were cooperative–much to the relief of the stylists, I’m sure.
My turn came, and ironically, my haircut was done by Terry, with a “y”. I never know exactly what I want to have done, and she asked all the right questions and had great suggestions for me. Overall, I had a very pleasant experience and was pleased with the outcome.
You’ll have to find me around town to see how it turned out–I stay behind the camera, not in front of it!

When I was in elementary school, I joined the 4-H club at Travis Air Force Base in California. Seeing the exhibits at the fair brought back memories of my days in leatherworking and sewing clubs, and in the leadership of our group. I even still have my 4-H hat stored away somewhere around the house!
Here are some photos from the fair:
