Dave took our van in for an oil change to Precision Tune in Elk River last week. Being a frugal hubby, he is always on the lookout for oil change coupons. On the Precision Tune website, he found their coupon page, and noticed something new. They are offering “mobile coupons” that are sent to your cell or smart phone, so all you need to do is show your phone at the desk.

This particular coupon was for a $14.00 oil change. Can’t beat that! As an added bonus, he was in and out of there in 10 minutes! Good job guys!

Reading Frenzy BookShop Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

Reading Frenzy BookShop will be having their ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, October 13, 2011 at 3:30 pm.

They will also be having their Grand Opening celebration on Saturday, October 16, from 12 noon – 8 pm with plenty of fun activities planned for the day.

One thing that I really appreciate is the excellent decor and the wonderful space for families to read and relax together. Watching the children play in the huge doghouse is very entertaining – makes me wish I had one!

Two great reasons to visit the shop are the kid’s story hours and their Saturday night music time. The bookstore has many activities planned each month, so be sure to stop by and grab a schedule.

Soberg Review – Zimmerman Fantastic Sams

I haven’t had my hair cut for almost a year and after I saw some of the photos Dave took of me, I decided it was probably about time to go under the scissors. I had my choice of local salons, and I decided to go to Fantastic Sams.

I went at their afternoon busy time so I had to wait about 30 minutes, but I sat in the waiting area so I could people watch. The store is well-taken care of and there were certainly a lot of customers in the chairs and waiting their turns. The stylists were all very friendly and chatting with the people in their chairs. Several children received haircuts and all of them were cooperative–much to the relief of the stylists, I’m sure.

My turn came, and ironically, my haircut was done by Terry, with a “y”. I never know exactly what I want to have done, and she asked all the right questions and had great suggestions for me. Overall, I had a very pleasant experience and was pleased with the outcome.

You’ll have to find me around town to see how it turned out–I stay behind the camera, not in front of it!

Soberg Review – Murray’s Pampered Pets

Dave and I spent several days taking the children to see their father for the summer in Tennessee. We needed a place to take our miniature schnauzer, Pugsly (named after the Addams Family character!) I met Rhonda through the Sherburne County Citizen Academy. She told me that she did pet sitting, so I contacted her to see if she would be available to watch Pugsly while we were gone. She was!

When we arrived at her home, I was pleased with what I saw. She has a nice property with plenty of room for the animals to get their exercise. She was very professional with paperwork for us to fill out. While we were gone, she asked if she could groom Pugsly, who needed it desperately. Rhonda even emailed me a couple of pictures of Pugsly and her dog, Zeus getting along.

When we returned, Pugsly was a new, very sharp-looking and good-smelling dog! Usually he is very skittish around new people, but when it was time to go, he wanted to remain with Rhonda — hmmm, what kind of treats did she give him?

I highly recommend Rhonda’s services–her prices are very reasonable and I know Pugsly had a good week while we were away.

Elk River Motocross Races

I stopped by to watch the motocross races at ERX Motocross Park on Saturday. My brother has a son who has been racing since he was four years-old, but they lived far enough away that I didn’t go to see his competitions. Watching the racers was pretty cool, except for the one who took a tumble!

Steve’s Elk River Nursery

We purchased three very nice maple trees from Steve last fall. So far they are doing excellent. Steve was very helpful in answering our questions and delivered the trees himself. We were very pleased with their business and customer service. We also took a peak at Debbie’s puppies while we were there. I tried to wheedle Dave into getting one, but he wouldn’t budge! The puppies were all adorable and obviously well-cared for. I haven’t given up on David yet!

The new planting season has started, so we visited Steve at his Nursery to see the new shrubs and trees. They are having their bareroot sale going on now.

Nelson’s Nursery in Zimmerman

Last year we shopped at Nelson’s Nursery several times. I knew that they were going to put in a new greenhouse over the winter, so we stopped by to see how it turned out.

Wow, very impressive! They always have beautiful plants and shrubs, but with the nice, open greenhouse everything is visible with the natural lighting.

They are also having their annual Spring Bareroot Sale, but it won’t last long!
